Alan gave Tarik a smile, ignoring, for a moment the two teenagers. "I would LOVE to go to a cafe. What currency do you use here? Is it still dollars? Euros? Pesos?" He could list off about a dozen other methods of payment, because he was familiar with most, but he still gave her a questioning look. Depending on the method, he could be rich here.

Aban had scrunched up a bit when Tarik hugged him, mainly because it was unexpected, he wasn't fond of hugs, and it hurt. He looked at Mark and backed away slightly. "I'm fine. The cuts aren't gonna kill me." He looked down at the ground as a memory of his dad came into view in his mind's eye. He flinched a bit physically at the memory. That had been the worst of his dad's drunken attacks, and he had the scar on his chest to prove it...but he wasn't about to tell them that.

"Do you want to come with us?" she asked Aban, "The cafe's are nice." She looked up at Alan, just now catching his question. "What is currency? Dollars? We do not use those things here." As she spoke, she slowly began to guide them into the heart of town.

Mark walked beside Bartre, waiting for Aban. He wasn't about to let the boy walk alone if it meant he could make a friend the same age as him. He crossed his arms behind his head. "So, Aban," he fished around for some topic of conversation, spotting the headphones, "what kind of music do you listen to?"

Alan left the two boys to their conversation, focusing entirely on Tarik. "What do you use to... buy things? To get them?" Surely there was some sort of barter system. They didn't really get things for free, did they?

Aban walked beside Mark with his hands in his pockets. "I mainly like classical. It helps to keep me calm. I'll listen to a few other things. I'm not too picky on what music I listen too." he shrugged. He fiddled with his ipod in his pocket.

Finally understanding, Tarik turned her eyes to the ground. "The ruler of Adonia... Used to have a law that the women were to be used to buy things." She looked up a bit, her eyes narrowing. "But that changed. Now, we do not pay. We simply create, and share. It is one of the laws that cannot be touched by our new queen." Her tone was that of anger; she hated the queen.

Classical music? Wasn't that what his mother was always listening to? "I like country! It's the perfect music for a farmer!" Mark smiled as his mind pictured himself on a farm, growing crops, as he whistled a country tune. Then he blinked and the image was gone.

Alan shook his head at the idea of not only slavery, but female slavery. He'd always been one of those very protective men when it came to women. "That's horrible. I can't believe they would trade anyone, let alone women." He shook his head again. "I'm sorry. You don't seem to like the new Queen."

Aban gave a small smile. "I like country too. It's my second favorite to listen to, after classical."

"She's a spiteful, horrid woman who desires nothing more than her own gain from innocent people." Tarik growled. Bartre tensed as well, and tenderly nuzzled the woman's cheek to calm her. Tarik sighed, and patted the creature. "She killed my parents."

Mark smiled. "Awesome! I always got made fun of by kids at my school for liking country. But you like it too! That's so awesome!" He continued walking in silence while he thought of something else to talk about. "What else do you like?" The question was broad, but he didn't know if Aban would pick up on that. "Like, other than music."

Alan's heart went out to the girl. He and his parents had been alienated from an early age, his insomnia and anxiety never really letting him connect with his mother on a sane level. His father, of course, had left when he was very young. "That's horrible, Tarik. I am sorry."

Aban thought for a minute and then shrugged. "I do gymnastics. That's fun for me." He looked straight ahead, but also down at the ground, his eyes never really focusing on one point at a time. He was aware of his surroundings, he had learned to be from a young age.

Tarik shook her head. "I am not to go near her. She will kill me as well." As she looked up, she now noticed that they were approaching a cafe, similar to an American Starbucks. "We are here."
