Tarik giggled as Mark pronounced her name wrong. It was fine; she could barely even speak English. She leapt into Alan's arms, giving him a big hurg, before doing the same to Mark. This was like a handshake to her people. Gently, she stroked the puppy's head. "Alan and Mark... And Frydough?" She blinked, tipping her head as she looked at the pup.

Alan blinked as the woman practically leapt into his arms. He was really going to need to adjust to life her. The greeting were so... personal.
He looked over at Mark and Fido. A puppy, a 15-year-old, and an island native atop a giant rhino...wolf....thing. If he hadn't finally gone back to his regular dosage of Ambien... He wouldn't thought he was on another of his worst trips.

Mark laughed, hugging her back. Then he pet his dog on the head. "Fido, but close enough. You'll get it eventually." He looked around as they continued to ride on Bartre's back. "So.....where are we? What is this place?"

Tarik moved back to sit in her previous spot, right as the cold hit. It was lick hitting a brick wall of ice; and snow whipped against their faces. Tarik grinned and spread her arms out, embracing the cold. "We are in Endurne!!"

Alan shivered a bit, glad he hadn't changed out of his T-shirt, hoodie, and jacket. He pulled the hood up over his head, hoping to save himself a bit, but the cold was still a bit nippy.
"Endurnel? Do the climates change so fast here?"

Mark shivered and pulled down the sleeves of his jacket, but it was such a thin jacket that it wasn't doing much against the cold. This was such a weird island, if the weather could change this fast. He preferred where they had been, perfect growing weather. Not much grew in winter. Fido curled deep into his lap, warmed by his fur and the boy's own body heat.

"Change?" She looked at Alan, laughing. "No! The climates... They meet on this island." As she spoke, they passed by a flock of penguins, all huddled together to protect their eggs from the cold. "Edurne is cold. Calida is warm. We'll be at Sabana soon." She looked ahead, leaning forward on Bartre.

Alan looked at the penguins. Poor things. But he still didn't quite understand. "They... Meet? How so?" He would have to get the facts right if he ever wanted to write about his experiences. Already he could see the shaping of a grand tale, with a female protagonist and an animal pet.

Mark pondered this for a moment. "So, the climate stays the same, on one part of the island, and only changes when you go to another part?" He didn't really think about the fact that the adults might find his understanding surprising. He had read all of this in books about farming, so he knew about stuff like climates. And a non-changing climate might make farming difficult. Or he'd have to grow the same plants all the time. That would be boring!

Tarik opened her mouth to explain it to Alan, but Mark beat her to it. With a surprised look, she nodded. "Ah, yes. That's right, Mark." She glanced up, and noticed that the snow clouds were beginning to break up. The cold faded, and soon, abnormal heat overtook them. The ground became hard and dry, and, not too far from where they were, a pride of lions sat watching them.

Alan marveled at the boy's knowledge, and then at the lions. "Are those.... Is that a pride of lions?" He almost felt like running off and touching one, if only to assure himself that this was real. He started leaning a bit towards them, subconsciously.

"Cool!" Mark said as he spotted the lions. So apparently they did have some normal animals. It had gotten so hot now that Mark took off the jacket. First it had provided not enough heat, now it was providing too much. He might have been knowledgeable about the climates, but it would still take some getting used to this island. And that was assuming they were now stuck here for awhile.

Seeing Alan drifting towards the edge, Tarik grabbed his shoulder, to keep him on-board. "Oh no, not good to interfere with lions." As she said such, the lionesses rose, prepping for a chase. Grunting, Tarik carefully began to stand on Bartre's back. When the lionesses gave chase, Tarik reached into the hidden pocket on her skirt, and pulled out a pill-sized rod. With a quick flick of her finger, the rod turned into a long, sharp spear. Tarik swung it at the lionesses, to send them away, while crying out at them. "[Stay away!! Stay away!!]"

Alan sighed, but then pulled himself closer to the beast as the lionesses gave chase. He pulled his hood down, sweltering now. He marveled at how calm Tarik was. "Who ARE you?" He asked, looking at her. She was just so calm and collected...

Mark watched Tarik throw the spear to chase of the lionesses. "Woah, cool!" He was impressed by her 'shooing' skills. But he would also make sure to stay away from the prides of lions that may be roaming about when he was on his own. First off, he had no awesome weapons. Second, he didn't exactly know how to fight. Yeah, should probably stay away from lions.
